Curriculum Development

Students who are excited about the content and questions they are exploring tend to dig deeper into their learning and expand their interest in learning in general. They make connections and apply their discoveries to other problems and questions they encounter.

Youngsters of all ages are motivated to answer important questions; questions that have relevance to them. Research shows that designing lessons and projects that engage students fully results in knowledge they will retain rather than facts and skills they will disgorge as soon as they have used them on a test.

By developing meaningful, engaging curriculum, grounded in an understanding of child development at each age level, we can involve children in deep learning and help them experience success both in the indoor classroom and the outdoor learning environment.

Learn Outside uses several models in assisting educators with curriculum development:

  • On-site support creating units of study for individual teachers and/ or grade level teaching teams
  • Design, development and write-up of multidisciplinary projects that integrate learning standards related to specific content for educators to implement at their individual schools
  • In-the-classroom or on-the-playground support co-teaching or assisting educators in implementing integrated projects related to content and learning standards
  • Observation of indoor and outdoor learning environments as well teacher and/or student observations to look for areas to extend or develop followed by consultation and/or written summaries
