Photo-Documentation
Wendy’s photographs are featured in Elizabeth Goodenough’s (Ed.) A Place for Play (The
National Institute for Play, 2008). They also appear in her own new book, Lens on Outdoor Learning (Banning & Sullivan, Redleaf Press, 2010) and in journals and periodicals including Exchange Press. Her work also appears on the websites of artists, educators and other professionals in the Research Triangle.
Wendy’s images are both valuable records and data for analyzing outdoor learning environments and assessing curriculum. Children learn by doing and the out-of-doors provides an exciting, hands-on, deeply interesting space in which children learn from the natural world, one another and from their play.
Using photo-documentation of children’s work and play outdoors, Wendy assists teachers in
assessing their outdoor learning environments, their planning and provisioning, and their success in meeting the goals they have for children in curricular content areas, social and physical development, and creative expression.

Wendy provides on-site photo-documentation, reviewing with teachers what the photographs reveal about what is available naturally for their students as well as how to extend and
develop new areas and experiences. Services include training sessions with teachers and/or parents on enhancing and using the outdoor learning environment more fully to support children's growth and development.
